The New Data Protection Rules GDPR

Most people can’t fail to have noticed that data protection laws are changing, with new GDPR rules coming into force on 25 May 2018.

Irrespective of the formal requirements of any data protection rules we have always been really serious about the security and confidentiality of information that we hold about our clients, whether that is in electronic or paper form.

Over the last six months we have been carefully checking and assessing all our systems and procedures to ensure that they both comply with the new GDPR rules and also that they represent current best practice.

We are pleased to report that our preparations and now complete and we will be fully compliant with the GDPR rules by 25 May 2018. The final piece of the jigsaw sees us rolling out the use of our secure client portal to more clients than in the past. The extended roll out of the portal is because we believe that exchanging certain types of sensitive information via e-mail presents a risk from a data protection perspective – e-mails are not particularly secure. Exchanging information via the client portal is a much more secure method and brings other benefits such as the ability to electronically approve documents (such as tax returns) without needing to send them to you in the post.

To access the portal simply visit our website and click on the “client area” button at the top right of any page.

Over the next few months we will be replacing our formal engagement letters with updated versions reflecting GDPR etc. A copy of our new privacy policy will also always be available on our website click here to link to the privacy policy page.
